lyrics

Step into this world headfirst
A doc and a nurse expecting the worst
Tangled in umbilical as I burst through
To the other side
Sensing my father's pride, I coulda died
While mother sighs and cries, "Thank god he's alive"
And she did it with complete sensation
No pain meds to the vein
To tame intense vibration
No cigarette smoke or alcoholic libation
The way she went about her baby-makin' was amazin'
So I grew and I grew
Knew I could do anything I wanted
My dad and his 6-string steadily haunted my memory
Singin' and strummin' the J.T. will forever be
Cleverly inked into the grain of my deepest mental crate
Sink into the brain and ingrain due to the deepest mental state
Hypnagogic
Sesame Street logic
No matter what color, you're my brother
Yeah, you got it
And that Houses of the Holy, sure we rocked it
Those filthy Bonham beats created a dirty conscience

This is who I am
Ocean waves and sand
Darkness filled with light
Grounded, taking flight

Growin' up in church Presbyterian
Showin' up in search
Less fear seeing my peers
Years were spent here singin'
But the meanin' didn't matter
The melodies and harmonies would shatter my past pain
Like a glass pane
Stained from all the tension at home
My parents slept in separate rooms
A pillow over my dome
So I could drown out the sound of verbal violence with silence
My brother and I, we preserved the alliance
And even though I treated him like bullies treated me
Fully frequently, everyday in school
He had the heart to forgive
I can't forget the golden rule
In middle school, I was a shy guy to some
But if you truly knew me, you knew I hit the drum
It's where I come from
My brother followed suit
The rhythm embedded deep in our souls at the root
Playin' in drumlines from Indiana to Denton
Enrichin' our minds, livin' our dreams
Representin'

This is who I am
Ocean waves and sand
Darkness filled with light
Grounded, taking flight

Check the resume
Got a degree from the U. of N.T.
But dropped out of grad school
Had to take incompletes
8 hours a day of play created cysts in my wrists
Previously, I thought ability was limitless
The universe works in mysterious ways
I couldn't drum for a year
Cue the alcoholic haze
But this would prove to be just a phase
I got my hands back and reinstated the craze
My connection to music, intuitive
I did not choose it
It chose me
Through flows of prose, it shows
Listening closely
Mostly pros, but constantly conscious
Environment is highly influential at best
That's why I left TX and headed northwest
Continue to invest in time to unwind
In the moonlight and sunshine, we get lost to find
Inspiration is all around
So grateful that I found it
Infinitely heed the call resounding deeply
So astounded

This is who I am
Ocean waves and sand
Darkness filled with light
Grounded, taking flight

about

Galaxe Portland, Oregon

Original member of Ghost-Note, Nick Werth serves up hip hop-inspired beats with his solo project, Galaxe. What makes this unique is that he does it all live while treating midi mallet percussion like an MPC. Galaxe's production style draws from many influences including J Dilla, Flying Lotus, the Fibonacci sequence, Fractal Theory, windows within windows, and the lush landscapes of the PacNW. ... more
